An alleged abuse of the Nuoro healthcare system has been discovered: a local health authority manager, despite being bound by an exclusivity regime, allegedly engaged in private practice in violation of contractual obligations. The Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle) of the Nuoro Provincial Command is investigating.
According to the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nuoro, the professional, despite having voluntarily chosen the exclusivity regime, continued to provide professional services for a private medical center owned by her spouse.
The exclusivity regime prohibits public-sector doctors from practicing outside of authorized facilities and entails specific financial benefits. Therefore, investigators from the Economic and Financial Police Unit worked on two fronts to verify the actual performance of the practice at the private center and calculate the amounts allegedly received unduly. At the conclusion of the first investigation phase, the preliminary investigations judge ordered the precautionary seizure of the alleged fraudulent profits: approximately €100,000.
In recent days, on orders from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Guardia di Finanza seized the funds in the suspect's bank account and a portion of the property housing the private medical center. The investigation is ongoing, and the manager is under investigation for aggravated fraud against a public entity.
The Guardia di Finanza emphasizes that the intervention aims to protect public resources in a crucial sector like healthcare, essential to the well-being of the community.
