Simonetta Murru, 81, the first and only mayor of Nuoro, died recently in hospital in Nuoro. Municipal councilor of the Socialist party since 1985 and UIL trade unionist, after having also been municipal councilor and deputy mayor, she held the position of first and only mayor of Nuoro from 18 July 1991 to 6 May 1992.

Her husband Martino Corda, also a socialist, had previously been mayor of Nuoro from 1983 to 1985.

«You left so almost suddenly, you left us an enormous void that I will never be able to fill, but I will forever be proud of you, the best mother I could have wished for, the only first female citizen (that's how you wanted it to be everyone remembers) of your city, Nuoro, which you loved so much, together with dad, me and Christian and your 4 splendid grandchildren" the memory of his son Ninni, football coach.
