A record-breaking 106 candles for a birthday in Barigadu. Celebrating this milestone today is Maria Antonia Tatti. A small party was held for her in the afternoon at the residential community where she has been staying for several years in Nughedu Santa Vittoria. Her nephew and other relatives arrived from Ogliastra, and Mayor Vanessa Corda, on behalf of the municipal administration, presented her with a beautiful bouquet of roses. Residents and staff celebrated with her. Aunt Maria Antonia, known as "Bella" (Beautiful) due to the beauty that has always distinguished her since she was young, was born on January 6, 1920, to Antonio Francesco Tatti and Francesca Scanu. She never married, and now, following a second femoral fracture in December 2020, which confines her to a wheelchair, she is a resident of the residential community run by the Giubileo 2000 Cooperative.
Maria Antonia Tatti attended school until third grade in her hometown, then had to interrupt her studies to help out at home. Before she reached adulthood, she stayed with a cousin on the mainland, taking a tailoring course in Florence, where she stayed for about a year. After earning her dressmaking diploma, she returned to Nughedu, Sardinia, and began teaching her skills in the art of tailoring in her hometown and surrounding towns.
She worked as a seamstress until retirement, but needle and thread accompanied her for many years. On her 100th birthday, wearing heels and a fur coat, she attended the thanksgiving mass and reception in her honor.
