Two hundred kilos of sand "stolen" by tourists on the beaches of Costa Rei and Feraxi in Muravera and seized at Elmas airport will return to their original sites .

The men of the Muravera barracella company, in collaboration with the volunteers from Sardegna Rubata and Depredata, brought the precious cargo back to the town .

Sand, shells, stones (in some cases the rude ones on duty have left writings, drawings and even "decorations" with the colors of their country of origin) which the barracelli will reposition on the Muraverese beaches in the next few days.
«The bad habit of carrying around a souvenir of the holiday is unfortunately constantly increasing – explains Lieutenant Daniele Battaglia , commander of the Barracelli di Muravera – We need to raise awareness of respect for our natural heritage . We try to make our contribution."
The municipal councilor for the environment, Fabio Piras , highlighted how there is «still a lot to do to raise the awareness of people who come on holiday in our area to respect the environment and, in particular, the beaches which are our precious heritage. Too many people think that there is nothing wrong with taking away a stone or sand, perhaps in a small bottle. Not only is it a theft punishable with heavy penalties but it is a real disgrace. As a municipal administration we are studying how to place information signs so that this concept becomes clear: taking sand away from the beaches is theft. Maybe those who don't know it yet will be careful not to carry out actions of this kind."
