Monserrato, via Decio Mure looks like a Formula One track: «We need a speed camera»

It is one of the streets in Monserratina where drivers put their foot down on the accelerator the most. Via Decio Mure is an urban artery, so the legal limit is 50 km/h but cars speed by at high speed. The residents of the area have always complained about the dangers that this entails, especially for the many students who travel there every day. There are two raised pedestrian crossings but the street is long and according to residents they are not enough. For this reason they are also asking for the installation of a speed camera.
"It's now common for drivers to use this road as if it were a fast-flowing one, especially in places where there are no speed bumps," says Caterina Mancosu , a resident of the street. "Two are not enough, more should be built in place of the traditional pedestrian crossings and, together with these tools, it would be appropriate to install a speed camera halfway down the road. We're talking about the safety of children going to school, as well as, obviously, that of all the other pedestrians. I hope they listen to our appeals ."
Ernesto Piga , a resident of Piazza Settimio Severo, echoes this sentiment: «I often see drivers who slow down only near the two raised crossings, then speed up again . Not only that: it also happens that some people overtake recklessly in the stretch where there is no traffic divider, even though it is a two-way street. We need a speed camera».
Claudia De Santis , a resident of Piazza Galba, adds: «More raised pedestrian crossings and at least one speed camera are the minimum for a dangerous road like Via Decio Mure. There are hundreds of cars that pass through even from the hinterland. If measures like the ones we have been asking for years are taken, I am sure that undisciplined drivers will get a grip, if they don't want to get a lot of fines» .
