An apartment thoroughly combed by experts for traces, stolen objects and clothing, several young people taken to the station to be questioned by investigators : the Carabinieri of the Cagliari Provincial Investigative Unit and the Quartu Company are continuing their investigation into the murder of Leonardo Mocci , 23, from Villacidro , which occurred around midnight in Piazza Settimio Severo in Monserrato. The investigation, coordinated by Prosecutor Enrico Lussu, began immediately after the news of the young bricklayer's death, killed by a gunshot while presumably leaving the home and the building where he had spent the moments immediately preceding the murder.

According to investigators' initial reconstruction, Mocci drove to Monserrato with a friend. He spent part of the evening at a residence: the reason for this is currently being investigated. Then, perhaps feeling threatened or in danger, he left to get back into his car, but he didn't have time . Someone killed him with a gunshot to the chest a few dozen meters from the building's entrance.

Some residents of the square heard the sound of the gunshot, and some mistook it for a firecracker. A woman and other residents, however, saw the young man's body on the ground and raised the alarm. Emergency personnel were unable to save his life. Thus, the Carabinieri began their investigation to reconstruct the young man's last hours and why he was in Monserrato. Was he meeting for business, money, or something else? Important evidence, in addition to the investigation team's search for clues (in addition to the apartment, technical and forensic checks were also conducted under the pilotis near the entrance to the building at number 3 in the square), has apparently come from cameras in the area, particularly those located on Via Decio Mure, at the entrance to the narrow street leading to Piazza Settimio Severo. Anyone who left, by car, scooter, or on foot, was certainly filmed.
