A gas leak, the spark, the explosion. In an instant Andrea Ortu found himself enveloped by fire, in the house where he had gone to live for just two days: an attic rented in via del Redentore in Monserrato, a few steps from the Town Hall. Now he is hospitalized in serious condition in Sassari, in the severe burns department of the Santissima Annunziata, after the first aid received at Brotzu.
The accident is a set of accidents that risked turning into an even greater tragedy: a leak in the city gas network would have made its way into the pipes of the sewage systems, going up to the fourth floor of the building. The studio apartment where Ortu lived was filled with propane air and when the boy lit a cigarette around 3.30 at night, he triggered the explosion. He was hit by the blaze, the blast unhinged the front door and windows.
A spokesperson for Medea, the company that deals with the distribution of gas in the city, says that "from the first checks carried out by the firefighters and Medea technicians it seems that an error in the realization of an electrical connection, made about a week ago, has damaged the gas pipeline from which the leak originated ".
