The trial of Monica Vinci, 54, opened this morning in the Assize Court in Cagliari. She was sent to trial for the murder of her 13-year-old daughter, Chiara Carta, which took place in their home in Sili, a hamlet of Oristano , on February 18, 2023.

Before the court presided over by Judge Lucia Perra (joined by her colleague Roberto Cau), the consultation between the consultants and the expert witness began, given that the defendant has documented psychiatric problems and the trial must determine whether she was mentally competent at the time of the very serious crime. After killing her daughter, the woman had attempted suicide.
First to take the stand was psychiatrist Stefano Ferracuti , called by prosecutor Valerio Bagattini, who concluded that the defendant was partially incompetent . The court then called expert witness Maurizio Marasco, who confirmed Vinci's schizophrenic delusions at the time of the crime, thus her total insanity . Finally, Giampaolo Pintor, appointed by defense attorney Gianluca Aste, will also be heard.

The murder (the teenager had been killed with 36 stab wounds) had been triggered by an argument because the girl had worn a miniskirt, but the psychiatrists' examination revealed that the woman heard the voices of the devil and was severely psychotic .

The three experts for the prosecution, the defense, and the preliminary investigations judge had already met in an evidentiary hearing during the investigation, but in the end the investigating judge had ordered the case to be sent for trial.
