Serramanna is mourning the death of Michele Melis, former city councilor and 2017 mayoral candidate. The 61-year-old engineer died after undergoing a CT scan—though the timing is unclear—at Cagliari's Oncology Hospital. He had been undergoing anti-allergy therapy for several days in preparation for the test, due to some allergies. But something went wrong: Melis's heart stopped beating late yesterday afternoon, February 7th.

The family is in shock: it cannot be ruled out that further investigations may be requested from the competent authorities.

"On behalf of myself, as Mayor of Serramanna, the municipal administration, and all the employees of the municipality, I express my deepest condolences for the passing of Michele Melis," writes Serramanna Mayor Gabriele Littera. "For years, Michele represented a key figure in our town's public life: a city councilor in the last legislature and a candidate for mayor in 2017 on the Progetto Serramanna list, he embraced his political and administrative commitment with genuine passion, a sense of responsibility, and unwavering concern for the Serramanna community. In challenging years, marked by a challenging overall environment," the mayor continues, "Michele never failed to provide his presence, his voice, and his determination. He did so with even greater strength considering his personal health condition, which he faced with dignity and discretion, never shirking his duty—and desire—to contribute to the common good. To his wife Mariuccia, his daughter Margherita, and all his family, I extend our deepest condolences and the closeness of the entire Serramannese community in this moment of great pain."

"I spoke to Michele yesterday morning," emphasizes city councilor Carlo Pahler, a great friend of Melis, "he told me he had been preparing for a few days for the exam he was about to take."
