This morning, the Mein Schiff Flow made its maiden call at the port of Cagliari. The flagship of TUI Cruises, a German cruise company, departing from Palermo, performed its maiden call (the ceremony celebrating a ship's debut in a port) at the capital's port. Approximately 4,000 passengers were on board.
The estimated average passenger spending on land is approximately 100 euros per person. The number of excursions purchased by cruise passengers is also particularly significant. There were 1,220 bookings for organized tours in Southern Sardinia. Destinations include the archaeological site of Nora, the Monte Arcosu nature reserve, the Dolianova wineries, Poetto beach, the Contivecchi salt pans, and tours dedicated to discovering the historic center and main attractions of Cagliari.
"Today's maiden call of Mein Schiff Flow represents an important recognition for the port of Cagliari and the entire island port system," says Domenico Bagalà, president of the Port Authority of the Sardinian Sea. "The numbers recorded today regarding excursion bookings demonstrate how cruise traffic continues to generate tangible and widespread economic benefits, thus contributing to the growth of the entire tourism sector. For our part, we reiterate our appreciation for the trust placed by cruise lines in our ports, but also our primary objective of continuing to develop a program that can promote new tourism seasons throughout the year and distribute the benefits of this growth across all ports in the system."
