"No, no, no, and no again." After the "no" of the entire Maracalagonis municipal council to the wind farm consisting of 17 wind turbines with a power of 7.2 MW each, for a total power of 122.4 MWp, in the municipalities of Sinnai and Maracalagonis, the mayor Francesca Fadda written to the ministries of Environment, Culture and Industry, the Region, the Metropolitan City and other bodies, illustrating the reasons for the "no" to this wind farm dropped from above at the end of May with a private project.

Mayor Fadda, after her comments on the project, writes arguing that we are aware of the importance of renewable energy and their development in a historical moment like this, but we must be equally aware that it is a complex challenge. It is not acceptable for a private company to present a project for its business which will upset existing habits, negatively impacting the activities and desires of the inhabitants. Instead, an environmental strategy that fits into the economic, social and territorial context of the country is needed. We must learn from the mistakes of the past and not compromise what is unique to us: places, landscapes, traditions, a centuries-old natural and cultural heritage that the world envies us and among these we can mention the Marese hills of Craboni, in fact a natural park and which will be defaced by the proposed monstrous wind farm. The development of renewable energy is necessary, but there cannot be a positive development by allowing speculation and waste of users' money for installations of wind towers whose technology should not be encouraged; a technology that will not be able to provide any decisive contribution to the country's energy needs, instead irreparably damaging the natural, cultural and agricultural landscape on which the identity of our country and the nation is based".

In the letter written after the no from the city council, Coldiretti and the "Di Vittorio" cultural association, the mayor Francesca Fadda recalls that «this project is placed in a territorial area already affected by numerous renewable energy production interventions ( photovoltaic panels). Furthermore, Maracalagonis is affected by approximately 7 mobile telephone antenna repeaters in the Craboni area; our country cannot be sown by telephone towers and wind turbines: now a wind farm is even being proposed and an unsustainable condition. It is clear that the sum of the interventions of the 17 wind turbines also produces visual effects and the transformation of the landscapes, no longer coherent with the historical and cultural matrices and for this I thank the "Associazione DI Vittorio" for the contribution sent to me and to all the City Council and which identifies a series of interesting and important historical and cultural sites. It is legitimate to believe that these large plants imposed on the territories thanks to an emergency political climate will have very dubious effects on the effective decarbonisation of the economic system or on the replacement of Russian gas. As is known, in fact, they will produce intermittent energy and will not be able to replace any system powered by fossil fuels. They will, however, have the certain effect of erasing a part of local and national identity, that perceived through the landscape, territorial integrity and culture. The new generations who will grow up without an identifying landscape will have less opportunity to develop correct environmental sensitivity and the right spirit of cultural cohesion, also in order to build a sustainable future and find real solutions to the problems posed by climate change. The proposed plant alone, as reported in the analysis reports, has an impactful visibility, along the radius of many neighboring municipalities in which there are strategic agricultural sites where tomatoes are produced, where the Su Staini wetland and the natural park are present of Craboni".

«In conclusion, as mayor - writes Francesca Fadda - I find myself absolutely against the imposing project for obvious environmental reasons and for the lack of involvement of the Municipal Administration since I do not believe it absolutely represents an opportunity in economic and employment terms for the territory of Maracalagonis and its inhabitants. I think that the opportunities, objectives and paths to be undertaken with strength and decision for the development of the people of Mare, for a better quality of life and future perspective for the new generations, pass through a redevelopment of the territory with the valorization of our rich archaeological heritage , agricultural, historical and landscape. This is why we say no, no and no again to the project and to all the surrounding work that the installation of these wind turbines entails, contributing to the devastation of the territory".

The vote in the Council, as is known, was unanimous after the interventions of the mayor herself, of the Prime Minister Eloisabetta Melis, of the councilors Antonio Melis and Ennio Fogli and of the minority councilors Gianluca Mudu, Sebastiano Ghironi, Saverio Pinna and Gregorio Contini who spoken in front of associations and citizens equally opposed to the project.
