Over a quintal of cocaine and almost 30,000 euros in cash : this is what the Guardia di Finanza seized in Sestu during a major raid on a lorry with a foreign license plate. The operation, which took place last Saturday, led to the arrest of two people, the driver of the heavy vehicle, a 38-year-old Polish man, and a 51-year-old from Iglesias.

The seizure, one of the largest ever recorded on the island , was triggered after the military noticed the driver, ready to hand over four large bags to the 51-year-old - who arrived on the scene on board a small car. What aroused the suspicions of the financial police was the furtive attitude with which the exchange took place .

Subsequent searches of the vehicles revealed that a large batch of cocaine was hidden inside the bags, divided into 100 blocks, for a total weight of 110 kilos. If placed on the market, the drug would have brought in over 10 million euros.

The operation ended with the arrest of the two, now detained in the Uta prison, and with the seizure of the drugs and approximately 29,500 euros in cash, believed to be part of the proceeds of the illicit activity.
