Egas, the governing body of Sardinia, has approved with two executive decisions the projects for the realization, by Abbanoa SpA, of two massive redevelopment interventions of the water network in the town of Macomer , for a total investment of over 1 million and 320 thousand euros.

Macomer is one of the towns in Sardinia with one of the highest water dispersions recorded on the island. Every day 60% of water is lost due to an obsolete and strongly corroded network which, in addition to the serious damage of the loss of water resources, generates an annual economic loss of over 500 thousand euros .

The works will be carried out with resources from the FSC 2014-2020 Development and Cohesion Fund, as part of an overall program of 68 million euros , intended for interventions for the protection of the territory and water, specifically to be used for structural rehabilitation and the functional reorganization of the drinking water distribution networks of the most critical urban centers in Sardinia.

The works, divided into two lots, involve a large part of the built-up area and provide for the replacement or disposal of old pipes and connections , especially those with an insufficient diameter and those now obsolete made of steel, gray cast iron or asbestos-cement; these will be replaced with new ductile iron pipes, while multilayer polyethylene pipes will be used for the 145 connections.

For Lot A, a total of 1,466 meters of pipelines will be replaced in Via Efisio Tola, Via Regina Elena, Via Domenico Alberto Azuni, Via Del Vascello, Via Cortina, Via Azuni, Via Capri, Via Gioberti, Via Parigi, Via Berlino, Via Carbonia, Via Olbia, Via Piave, Via Iv Novembre and Via Taormina. Lot B, on the other hand, involves Via Campana and Via Veneto, where approximately 333 meters of pipelines will be replaced for an economic commitment of 340 thousand euros.

The president of Egas Fabio Albieri: "With this intervention we avoid wasting thousands of cubic meters of water again in the subsoil every day: an enormous damage to the environment, to the water service in favor of the Macomer population and an economic burden on tariffs . Water is one of the most precious things that nature gives us and we cannot afford to waste it ”.
