While the collection is still ongoing, with over 100 volunteers, in Macomer the first estimates are being made of the initiative that has seen the four city parishes as protagonists with Caritas and also with the volunteers of Oftal.
An initiative that today also saw the surprise visit of Governor Alessandra Todde , who was on an institutional visit to the area and wanted to pay homage to the commitment of the many workers in the field.
Initial data shows that food and other items worth around 30 thousand euros were collected . For the entire day, volunteers stood in front of and at the entrances of supermarkets, markets and even small shops, asking for people's solidarity, to meet the needs of many families, around 200, with many children, who live in poverty. The generosity was exemplary.
The collection was carried out thanks to the collaboration of the food sales groups operating in Macomer.
The parish priest, Father Andrea Rossi, expressed his total satisfaction : «We must thank all those who wanted to contribute to this important day , with solidarity. I thank in particular the volunteers, who throughout the day worked hard to ensure that everything possible was collected. A huge thank you to everyone».
The initiative was coordinated by the assistant parish priest, Don Marco Saurra, who created an excellent network of collaborators, many of whom acted, in addition to raising awareness, also by making their free time available. " It was a day of celebration. A day full of meaning, with the generosity of many, which truly thrilled and moved us at the same time."
We wait until the end of the day to make an overall assessment, but in the meantime the Caritas workers are organizing to deliver to the needy families what has been collected, which allows many to spend a Christmas with less suffering and with hope.
