In two weeks, Peppina Corona would have turned 106. She passed away today, surrounded by the love of her family, who always cared for her with love.

Hers was a large family, with nine children (five living), 19 grandchildren, and as many great-grandchildren. A woman of deep faith, Grandma Peppina, who also ran the grocery store in Lotzorai, was devoted to Padre Pio.

When she was young, her father Salvatore had prophesied that she would reach the age of one hundred. And so it was, indeed, Grandma Peppina, who loved to entertain herself with long stories with her grandchildren, went far beyond that.

She had been a widow since 2004, when she lost her husband, Mario Cauli. "She left a profound mark on the collective memory of Lotzorai. The community," said Mayor Cesare Mannini, "is left with the memory of a special woman, a witness to times gone by and a guardian of authentic values that will live on in all of our hearts. She was an example."
