Piergiorgio Benaglia, the Piedmontese tourist who was the victim of a terrible accident in Abbatoggia yesterday in La Maddalena , didn't make it .
The man, born in 1965, born in Turin but residing in the province of Novara (therefore not from Lombardy, as we learned at first), after sunbathing on the beach, moved together with his niece, a little girl, to the shade of a ridge to read a book . The little one , according to the investigations of the Carabinieri, climbed on a teetering boulder which detached from the earthen wall, overwhelming the tourist .
The man suffered a very serious abdominal trauma and was rescued by 118 personnel . However, the boulder was so heavy that it took the Fire Brigade two hours to free it .
The doctors, after resuscitating him, arranged for the patient to be transferred by helicopter to Olbia, where he underwent urgent surgery.
However, his conditions remained very serious until his death this morning.
The little girl was on holiday with her grandfather and was joined by her family today.
