The Municipal Administration of La Maddalena finances the “Atena Project” for the benefit of women, aimed at combating gender violence in order to allow those who participate to acquire basic and advanced notions of personal self-defense.
It is intended for both female personnel working in sensitive places such as hospitals, social services, medical emergency services, law enforcement and traffic police, as well as girls about to move to attend university courses elsewhere, where the risks to their safety may be greater.
The project was presented a few days ago, in the morning in the high school assembly hall and in the afternoon in the council chamber.
"An initiative that we care about particularly - said the mayor, Fabio Lai - and for this I recognize the commitment of the delegate for Sport, Milena Orrù, and of the president of the city council, Giovanna Scotto, for the realization of an initiative on such a burning issue, that of gender violence. What we want, with these courses is to give women security. We want them to be able to have the security to identify the potential aggressor and know how to defend themselves because these techniques in many cases save lives, save from rape".
For the delegate for Sport, Orrù, «it is a useful course, especially on a psychological level because, when you find yourself in a dangerous situation, putting into practice what you have learned in a course becomes complicated. The course also helps you to know how to manage anxiety in these moments and make the techniques you have learned automatic».
The courses will start in a few weeks and will continue until April.
