Israeli war material on board? Cargo inspection: "Cagliari is a city of peace."
Mayor Massimo Zedda: "Checks are underway to determine any violations of the law on the transportation of weapons."Inspections are underway aboard the MSC Vega, which has been docked in Cagliari's canal port for two days.
"Yesterday evening, as soon as news of the presence of the cargo ship, which could be carrying suspected war material to Israel and the Gaza Strip, in violation of Law 185 of 1990 (which regulates the transport of weapons, ed.) , I contacted the relevant institutions," said Cagliari Mayor Massimo Zedda, who had been urged by numerous associations to shed light on the cargo.
"The various institutional representatives were already aware of the ship's arrival and had already arranged for checks," the mayor continued. "Since this morning, cargo inspection procedures have been underway, verifying the contents of the containers and the materials being transported, as already occurred in the port of Gioia Tauro."
The city of Cagliari, Zedda emphasizes, "is a city of peace , and it is our duty to monitor and request checks from the competent authorities, also following reports from many citizens."
