The desperate search for personnel in Sardinia does not slow down and even exceeds last year's record levels. To cope with the summer that has now begun, the island's businesses are ready to sign over 40,000 employment contracts, many of which are in the tourism sector, but not all. Indeed, the sectors most in need of workers also include construction, trade and logistics. However, they all share the same enormous problem: the lack of suitable figures. It has now reached emergency levels with 46% of job offers that do not find suitable candidates.

However, with the summer now in full swing, the sector in which the shortcomings are most felt, however, remains that of the tourist industry. Online announcements are flooding: «Waiters, waiters, assistant cook, dishwasher and barman, wanted», read the advertisements: «Required a minimum experience and the ability to work in a team». Some also offer board and lodging, others promise a basic salary of over 1,500 euros. So why doesn't anyone answer?

«They no longer want to sacrifice themselves», thunders Elena Callizzaro, owner of a restaurant in Palau with her partner, «professionalism no longer exists. Many arrive, stay about ten days, if all goes well a month, and then run away, often leaving us in trouble. There are those who refuse 1,700 euros».
