Iglesias, hundreds of faithful for the blessing of the Palms

Today, in Iglesias , hundreds of faithful participated in the traditional ceremony of the blessing of the Palms . The religious event was celebrated by the bishop of the city diocese , Don Mario Farci, in a crowded Town Hall square.

After the blessing, the religious group entered the cathedral dedicated to Santa Chiara, where the solemn mass was celebrated . The ceremony opened the rites of Holy Week, which will begin on Tuesday, with the procession of the Mysteries. The Holy Week events that are held in Iglesias have maintained the charm of the ancient tradition of Spanish origin, rigorously guarded by the Archconfraternity of the Holy Mount.

For the occasion, after the blessing of the Palms, the church of San Michele, seat of the Archconfraternity and custodian of the simulacra of the Easter processions, opened its doors to the numerous visitors who invaded the historic center. With today's ceremony, the city enters the heart of the most important week of the year.
