After six months of investigation, the Samatzai carabinieri reported a 48-year-old from Palermo to the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office, accused of aggravated fraud, impersonation and ideological falsehood.

Posing as an operator for the Italian Post Office, the woman had contacted her victim - a girl from Samatzai - claiming that someone had managed to access her Internet Banking profile and would soon steal the sums contained in her postal account.

The young woman had therefore agreed to click on a link that the scammer had sent to her via an SMS message and thus entered a fake Post Office website, entering her credentials.

Credentials were then immediately used by the 48-year-old to subtract 3,250 euros from the unfortunate woman's account.

Having noticed the scam, the young woman turned to the Carabinieri of Samatzai, who - in collaboration with colleagues from the Sicilian capital - managed to trace the scammer, reporting her to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
