The G20 Beaches is underway: the largest and most important Italian marine communities will meet in Alghero from 14 to 16 May. It will be a ceremony that attests to the growth of an intuition, which started in 2017 in Bibione, and which involved the entire peninsula. For some time now, delegations from the new municipalities have participated in the work of the annual Summit, which this year has been enriched with 3 other thematic events (Castiglione della Pescaia, Sorrento, Rome).
"In our being concrete - says Roberta Nesto, national coordinator of G20Spiagge and mayor of Cavallino Treporti - we have always shared the specific themes that involve us and we have always welcomed the experiences of other locations: the sector we deal with, tourism, requires continuous and constant in-depth analysis, qualified as well as urgent responses, attention that is not seasonal nor can it be limited only to our daily work in the territory. We need common strategies, vision, a dose of reality: the largest industry in the country - concludes Roberta Nesto - must absolutely become one of the main themes of the development of our nation!".
Alghero is ready to host the G20S Destination Summit. Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto has involved the entire territory in the preparation of the event in recent months. "Being a coastal municipality with so many visitors every year entails a series of responsibilities towards residents and the entire territory that we can no longer face alone: we need resources and targeted strategies so that the effects of overtourism do not negatively impact citizens. We need to network and work together with all the municipalities with the same characteristics as us, beyond political alignments, so that our communities have the right recognition and the necessary support to guarantee a balanced quality of life, which puts people and their needs at the center", says Cacciotto.
The G20Spiagge, close to a possible doubling of membership, is a very pertinent example of the transversal and pragmatic action of the mayors in tackling shared problems: on the 7 tables of the Alghero Summit, environmental issues will be addressed (from waste management to coastal erosion, from Energy Communities to alternative sources), issues related to residents will be discussed (from rent to health, from mobility to trade), those of the tourist tax and, finally, the difficulties in managing state property and sea safety. In short, they will be comparisons that will make the 7 tables true laboratories of innovation and sharing of good practices and, in the most total transversality, of proposals common to the Government, national politics and the Regions.
