Fontanamare, the new bridge inaugurated: the beach is accessible again

The new Fontanamare bridge was inaugurated in Gonnesa. Collapsed in 2020 when a garbage collection truck passed by , from today the new bridge that connects the provincial road to the parking lot and therefore to the beach is passable again.

«Finally the bridge reopens - said the mayor of Gonnesa, Pietro Cocco, before the ribbon cutting - we had to make a new tender which was won by a serious company that respected the terms of delivery of the works. The key fact is that this summer begins with the bridge back in operation. Among other things, it will be the first in Europe with fiberglass beams».

The designer Fausto Mistretta explains what this new material used for the Fontanamare bridge consists of. «In this bridge the normal reinforcement - says Mistretta - have been integrated with fiberglass bars which have the characteristic of not being attacked by the environmental conditions of this site. The collapse of the previous bridge was anticipated precisely by the corrosion of the reinforced iron due to the aggressiveness of the environment. With the use of this material, the durability of the infrastructure increases».
