"Immediate action is needed to protect passengers." This is the urging of Elisabetta Manca, general secretary of UilTrasporti Sardegna, given the ongoing problems with territorial continuity flights to and from Sardinia.
"Yet another day of serious disruption for passengers on regional continuity flights to and from Sardinia. The increase in air traffic with the start of the summer season is highlighting increasingly frequent problems, with delays, cancellations, and schedule changes that are compromising the efficiency of an essential service for the mobility of Sardinian citizens," reads a statement from the union, which adds: "This morning, too, there were significant delays on flights between Cagliari and Rome Fiumicino. The flight scheduled for 9:00 a.m. did not take off until 12:45 p.m., accumulating a delay of over two and a half hours, while the 1:00 p.m. flight was delayed by over an hour and a half."
"Added to these critical issues are the flight schedule changes communicated to passengers with little notice," Manca continues, "a situation that creates significant inconvenience, especially for those who need to continue their journey with connecting flights, reach work, attend medical appointments, or keep previously scheduled appointments."
"The irregularities," the union continues, "are affecting all three airports in Sardinia, confirming a situation that is no longer episodic but structural, and which risks compromising the very function of territorial continuity."
"As a trade union," the statement concludes, "we express deep concern about the recurrence of these disruptions and call for urgent intervention from the Sardinia Region and the affected carriers to ensure the regularity, reliability, and quality of service. Territorial continuity is a fundamental right of Sardinian citizens and cannot be jeopardized by increasingly frequent inefficiencies."
