Monserrato mourns its first mayor. Giuseppe Marras died this morning after a long illness . He was 75 years old .

He was elected first citizen in the ranks of the Christian Democrats in 1992 , immediately after the town obtained autonomy from Cagliari becoming a separate municipality, and remained in office until 1995.

Previously, in 1978 he was president of the Pro Loco. In 2008 he was awarded the "Pro Monserrato" prize, an acknowledgment granted to Monserrato citizens who have brought prestige to the city.

"He was a true gentleman, a person who gave so much to Monserrato," comments Marco Badas, his great friend and who fought with him for autonomy.

The funeral will take place tomorrow at 3 pm in the church of the Most Holy Redeemer .
