No responsibility of the mayor of Seneghe. The investigation for extortion was archived, at the request of the prosecutor, and Albina Mereu emerges with her head held high from the judicial affair that involved her a year and a half ago. "I am satisfied with this result that, from the beginning, I considered certain in the knowledge of having operated with absolute transparency and in full compliance with the current legislation" comments the mayor.
The investigation
It all started in January 2024 with the investigations of the Carabinieri of the station who wanted to shed light on the contributions assigned by the Municipality to the Pro Loco for the organization of “Prentzas apertas”, the exhibition dedicated to oil. The Council had initially allocated 16 thousand euros, then 7 thousand euros were diverted from that sum and later entrusted to two communication companies. Everything was written in official documents but the investigators started investigations to verify the regularity of the procedure.
The mayor, assisted by the lawyer Anna Maria Busia, has always rejected the accusations and subsequent developments of the investigation have proved her right, since even the prosecutor Paolo De Falco (head of the investigation) has asked for the case to be shelved. And the judge Salvatore Carboni has accepted the request, shelving the file, in the decree it speaks of "numerous contradictory elements that emerged during the investigation". In the meantime, the defense with the lawyer Busia has also asked for access to the investigation documents to better investigate the entire issue.
The verdict marks the end of a story that, as the mayor admits, "had significant repercussions both on a political and personal level, involving not only me but also the deputy mayor Davide Sedda". Albina Mereu recalls that it was not easy but "the trust in the correctness of the administration's actions never wavered, not even in the face of the seizure of the deputy mayor's PC and cell phone during the investigations - she maintains - Even in those moments we faced the incident with serenity and a sense of duty, strong in the awareness of a linear and law-compliant conduct. And in fact the administrative activity did not suffer any setbacks but continued with the usual commitment".
