An explosion occurred at 1:50 PM today in a house in the town of Santa Maria 'e Mare, an isolated area in the territory of Orosei, in the province of Nuoro. The cause of the explosion was apparently a gas leak from an LPG cylinder.

In the accident, a 41-year-old local waiter, Shanu Frongia, was seriously injured, suffering burns on about 50% of his body. The explosion also caused several walls of the house to collapse, which was hit directly by the blast.

The 118 paramedics intervened on the spot and intubated Frongia. Given the seriousness of his condition, he was urgently transferred by helicopter to the hospital in Sassari, where he will be admitted to intensive care with a red code.

Present were the firefighters, busy with operations to secure the building, and the Carabinieri, who are carrying out investigations to clarify the dynamics and causes of the explosion.
