Elia Del Grande, sentenced to thirty years in prison for the so-called "baker massacre" when, on January 7, 1998, at the age of 22, he murdered his family by killing his father, mother, and brother in Cadrezzate, in the Varese area, has fled from the workhouse where he was staying in Castelfranco Emilia, in the province of Modena, disappearing without a trace . The search for the fugitive is also focused on the Varese area and Sardinia.

Qn-il Resto del Carlino reports the news.

Already at the time of the events, immediately after the crime, Del Grande had planned with his partner to escape from the prison in Pavia , where he had been locked up, towards Sardinia : the plan fell through and he was sentenced, for the specific crime, to 8 months.

Del Grande, now 49, was placed under a security measure because he was deemed a social danger and was scheduled to spend six months in the facility until a reassessment. He had already been released from prison after serving 25 years for the triple homicide .

The judges of the Surveillance Court placed him on probation because he was deemed socially dangerous, in light of thefts and episodes of harassment in the neighborhood , deciding for him the measure of placement in the workhouse in the Modena area, where he has been held since September.

The escape occurred a few days ago: Del Grande climbed over a wall and disappeared. The Carabinieri and prison authorities are now investigating to find him.

The family was well-known in Cadrezzate, in the Varese area, where the tragedy took place, as they owned a well-known bakery. Del Grande killed his father, mother, and brother over disagreements over his relationship with a girl from Santo Domingo .
