Tragedy was narrowly avoided late yesterday evening on State Road 131: a herd of wild boars invaded the roadway at kilometer marker 167, on the Campeda plateau, during severe weather and the first snowfall. A motorist, traveling toward Sassari in a station wagon, collided with the herd of animals wandering in the area. The collision was inevitable.

The driver, fortunately, was unharmed, but it could have been a tragedy. Eight wild boars were left on the ground, killed in the impact, scattered across several meters. Rescue operations began immediately, with the arrival of firefighters and traffic police from the Macomer detachment.

Traffic was temporarily blocked until the affected vehicle and the animal carcasses were removed, and the road was secured.

The invasion of wild boars, but also of other animals, is a constant danger on the 131. Animals that can freely invade the roadway, which is devoid of any type of fence.
