They managed a vast drug trafficking between Spain and Sardinia . For this reason this morning the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Cagliari confiscated movable and immovable assets for a total value of over 2.6 million euros from two spouses, both residents of Turin. They are a 47-year-old, resident in Venaria Reale, and his 46-year-old wife, of Cuban origin and resident in Moncalieri. The measures led to the confiscation of a large estate , accumulated thanks to the profits of a vast drug trafficking between Spain and Sardinia , and include 14 properties including residences and commercial premises in Turin , ten financial relationships, jewelry and cash, now entrusted to the National Agency for the Administration and Destination of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organized Crime.

The operation has its roots in a long and complex investigation coordinated by the Cagliari District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which started with a seizure of cocaine at the "El Dorado" airport in Bogota, which subsequently allowed the identification of an extensive criminal network with an operational base in Piedmont and connections with Spanish drug traffickers . This network was then found to be responsible for large flows of drugs directed to the Island.

Already in January 2022, the operation had led to the arrest of 16 people in various cities, including Cagliari, Turin, Rome, Pescara, Varese and Oristano, and to the seizure of assets linked to criminal activities . On that occasion, the operation had seen the use of special units of the Carabinieri, including the Cacciatori di Sardegna, the canine units and the 11th Elmas Helicopter Unit, to ensure rapid and coordinated action on a national scale.

The measures carried out this morning confirm the scope and dangerousness of the criminal network and the central role of the two Turin spouses in the reinvestment of the proceeds of international drug trafficking.
