A foreign merchant ship, with 30 crew members on board, was blocked at the port of Porto Torres with an administrative detention issued by the Port Authority because it did not comply with the required safety regulations.

The military has found that the lifeboats are not functioning making it nearly impossible to abandon the ship in an emergency. The exercises carried out on board have also shown that the crew is not fully ready in case of evacuation from the ship or to face a fire on board, whose safety standards are provided for by international regulations such as the Convention for the Protection of Human Life in sea - Solas.

The non-compliances, at the moment, therefore prevent the departure of the ship until a resolution by the shipping company.
