The red water flowing in the Santa Barbara River is frightening farmers and ranchers. While the Forestry Corps' investigation focuses on the Genna Luas landfill, mayors are taking action with ordinances prohibiting the use of contaminated water.

And the Province rebukes Portovesme srl: "No exemptions, the excess leachate must exit Sulcis Iglesiente."

Many questions await an answer, including a fundamental one: what control system failed to allow the river of sulfuric water to flood a local road and reach the Santa Barbara stream, a tributary of the Cixerri stream that carries water to the dam of the same name. In the event of a water emergency, the dam supplies the Sulcis Iglesiente basin and other areas of southern Sardinia.
