Not just the Barony and Ogliastra. The heat and the water crisis are now biting in the mountains of Sardinia. Abbanoa, having seen " the increasingly smaller quantity of water that can be withdrawn from the Torrei water purification plant and having ascertained an anomalous consumption in the network, after having started verification activities by finding improper use of the water resource by the population served, asked in a note sent to the mayors of Tonara, Belvi, Aritzo, Sorgono, Atzara, Meana Sardo, Austis, Ortueri, Neoneli, Nughedu, Sorradile, Bidoni, Busachi, Ardauli, Ulà Tirso, Desulo, Teti, Tiana, Ovodda to issue a specific ordinance «which sensitizes the population to an exclusive use of water for human needs, with a ban on its use for watering, irrigation, washing private courtyards and cars".

In short, a real water restriction to "avoid - the water manager threatens - heavy rationing in supply to users".

The reaction of the mayor of Desulo, Cristian Melis, was immediate and he said he was ready to issue the ordinance restricting car washing, courtyards and watering as requested by Abbanoa, but at the same time also to write to the new prefect of Nuoro to order Abbanoa to fix the pipes at the Altura depot « where there are many breakages. Those supplies", underlines Melis, "would guarantee Desulo to arrive until September without any problems".
