What is the status of construction work on the roads under the jurisdiction of Anas in Sardinia? The company provides the answer on its website, with data updated—it is assured—as of May 29th. So, as of last Friday.
There are 95 active construction sites on the island, many of which are currently being finalized. The total cost, including new projects, exceeds one billion euros (1.106 billion, to be precise). Three projects, worth a total of 3.46 million euros, are currently "on hold." Five maintenance projects, worth a total of 42.3 million euros, are currently "suspended."
Work in progress and delays
One of the most significant construction projects is 94.46% complete: the new highway 195, for a total cost of over €178 million. Work on the Sa Codina bridge on highway 128, which began in 2024, is currently being rescheduled. The same timeline is being applied to the pavement reinforcement of highway 131 from kilometer 77.500 to 142.500: begun in 2015, it is currently at an 80% completion point (cost: just over €700,000). Structural rehabilitation work on some sections of highway 125 began in July 2025. The scheduled completion date is set for next July. However, the work is only 7% complete. The reconstruction of the railway overpass at kilometer 16.500 of highway 130 was awarded in April 2020: as of Friday, completion was 57% complete. The list is long.
Work blocked
There are three of them, and they're classified as "blocked." Given delays and problems everywhere, if a red flag is issued, the situation must be extremely critical. On May 5th, Anas (by mutual consent) terminated the contract with ICI Italiana Costruzioni, which was supposed to carry out structural repairs between km 5 and 30 of the 131, for a value of €1.37 million. However, the company was supposed to carry out the same work for an additional 47 kilometers. This was also terminated. Another blocked project, with the contract terminated in September 2025 for "negligent delay," concerns the scheduled maintenance of the Sassari-Tempio highway.
Work suspended
Five existing contracts have been suspended. The lighting in the Medau Zirimilis tunnel, on the Giba road, is described as being suspended due to the wait for the power line connection: unless I'm mistaken, Anas reports that this has been the case since 2019. On the Northern Sardinian state road 127, a construction site to resolve a landslide has been in limbo since February pending a subsequent contract that must guarantee the integrity of the structure. The supply of variable message signs (worth €1.4 million) on the Cagliari state roads has also been suspended since July 2025. On April 17, work to upgrade the systems in the San Francesco II tunnel on the 131 DCN was suspended. The problem: interference with work in the Siniscola Sud tunnel, which also has a North tunnel, where extraordinary maintenance has been suspended since March 31. The reason: "Special circumstances that temporarily prevent the work from proceeding properly."
