Crosetto: "Impossible to reduce military exercises and training in Sardinia"
The words of the Minister of Defense in the Chamber, during the question time: "But we will take care of the island with further investments for sustainable development"Military exercises and training of the Armed Forces in Sardinia will not be reduced .
Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said it without too many words during the question time in the Chamber, questioned by Francesca Ghirra (Avs) on the initiatives to redefine the areas subject to military servitude in order to reduce the environmental impact and on the health of Sardinian citizens.
" The current strategic framework - said Crosetto - does not allow reasoning in terms of reducing the training activities of the Armed Forces ".
However, the minister assures, "the government and the Defense will take care of every possible contribution to the sustainable development of the Sardinia region through further investments aimed at increasing scientific research, technological development and innovation also in a dual key, as well as civil and not just military development, testifying to the centrality that Sardinia has for us in the development of the country".
«Totally unsatisfactory answer» according to Ghirra.
"I am well aware - explains the deputy - that this situation has old and deep roots, but that doesn't mean we don't have to fight for Sardinia to be progressively demilitarized and to obtain adequate and real compensation from the State for the presence of servitude, restricted areas and military polygons that do not allow health, well-being and sustainable development of our territory".
