Covid, in Sardinia new cases up by 13.6% in a week
The province of Sassari, where the presence of the Omicron variant was found, remains the one with the highest number of cases, 78 per 100 thousand inhabitants

The epidemiological curve of Covid-19 continues to worsen, in Sardinia and in the country.
In the island, in the week between 1 and 7 December, according to the data recorded by the Gimbe Foundation, the currently positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants went from 168 in the last seven days of November to 190, but with an increase in new cases on 13 , 6% compared to the previous week, when, however, the increase was 24%.
The province of Sassari - where the presence of the Omicron variant was found - remains the one with the highest number of cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, equal to 78, followed closely by that of Nuoro with 76 cases and by Southern Sardinia with 72.
The Oristanese, with 59 cases, and the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with 33 are detached.
The beds in the medical area (6%) and in intensive care (4%) occupied by Covid-19 patients remain below the saturation threshold.
IN THE COUNTRY - In Italy the week from 1 to 7 December saw a 22.4% increase in new Covid-19 cases, a 12% increase in deaths, 16.3% hospitalized and 13.6% ICU patients. "For 7 weeks - explains Nino Cartabellotta, president of Gimbe - new cases have continued to increase with a daily average more than sixfold: from 2,456 cases registered on 15 October to 15,110 on 7 December".
In all regions, except Molise and Valle D'Aosta, there is an increase in new cases ranging from 1.8% in the Marche to 50.3% in Umbria. In 52 Provinces the incidence is equal to or greater than 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and in the lead are Trieste (with 694 cases), Bolzano (651), Treviso (467) and Padua (405).
THE CAMPAIGN - In the meantime, the vaccination campaign is accelerating: in 7 days there were in fact 223 thousand first doses, with a 31.7% increase in new vaccines thanks to the "super green pass". While there is a real "boom of third doses", with 2.6 million recalls and an increase of 52.6% in a week.
According to Gimbe, 80.1% of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, but 2.5 million over 50s at high risk of hospitalization remain uncovered.
