A "hot" July for the Costa Smeralda airport, as announced by the Sardinian UilTucs, which proclaimed the strike and the state of unrest among the security staff of the Olbia airport. Problems could arise as early as next July 4th.
The union, led by the regional secretary Andrea Lai, represents over 50 percent of the workers of the Coopservice company which is in charge of checking departing passengers and all supervision. For months UilTucs has been asking for the recognition of the qualifications of specialized operators and has opened a dispute which has brought the case before the prefect of Sassari, Grazia La Fauci.
The union communicated the package of abstentions to the Commission for guaranteeing the implementation of the law on strikes in essential public services: «From 5th to 26th July, abstention from overtime by all staff employed at the Olbia Costa Smeralda airport; within the same period of abstention, we declare a four-hour strike in the first four hours of service of each shift for the working day of July 21st".
The strike and the abstention from overtime will have serious repercussions , the Uil as required by law will guarantee "the access control service at 50 percent of that normally ensured". The supervisory institute, one of the most important at national level, had made a counter-proposal for the recognition of qualifications and a salary supplement, but UilTucs considered Coopservice's offer completely insufficient. The case was reported to the regional transport councilor.
