The municipal council of Castelsardo has approved by majority the new " Municipal Regulation on the occupation of outdoor spaces and areas to be used for the administration of food and drink".

The new dehors may be authorised, on a temporary basis for 180 days, or, on a permanent basis, for an entire calendar year, for a maximum number of five years. However, those who use it will have to guarantee the service for at least 11 months a year , no more closures of all establishments at the same time, nor tourists desperately looking for a place open in the low season.

«The previous regulation was restrictive for a tourist municipality such as Castelsardo, in particular the maximum duration of six months, barring particular events, discouraged investments by economic operators in the sector. – recalls the councilor for productive activities Giuseppe Corso – We have however also taken into account the citizen's right to peace and rest and the environmental, cultural and landscape interests that are opposed to the installations ».

Specifically, it will be possible to partially request the use of public spaces in piazza Bastione (both upper and lower), piazzetta la Rosa, piazza la Pianedda and piazza Nuova, while requests for the use of the land cannot be authorized for the piazza delle Misericordia, the churchyard of the Cathedral, the belvedere of via Seminario, the loggia of the Palazzo Comunale, the access climb to the Castello dei Doria, piazza della Loggetta and piazza del Novecentenario.

The regulation must be forwarded to the regional offices of the Archaeological Superintendence, Landscape Protection Service, for approval, and will enter into force from 1 October 2023 . Dehors already approved before that date can be renewed until 31 December 2026 .
