"The exorbitant increase in the cost of ferries to Sardinia in the summer period is unjustifiable and discriminatory". This is what Silvio Lai , Pd deputy of the Budget Commission declares, in relation to the tariffs applied by the shipping companies that guarantee the routes from the Continent to the Island.

« The cost of the bridge ticket even doubles that charged for an air journey in a regime of territorial continuity - explains Lai -. And what's more , there are no obvious differences between the various shipping companies, as if to reveal an agreement between the various interests in clear violation of the rules on competition and the right to free movement of all citizens".

"For this - he continues - , collecting complaints from the media and organizations representing consumers, I formally asked for the intervention of the Competition and Market Authority".

"Those tariff plans must be revised with absolute urgency - adds Lai - also because if they remain so , tens of thousands of citizens, starting with the Sardinian ones, who do not have sufficient funds to bear the heavy costs, would be prevented from being able to reunite with their families or even to enjoy a few days off after a season of work".

«What is equally unbearable – the further clarification – is the silence of the Region which, as always, suffers and in many cases is compliant to the wishes of the big interests. The Region cannot ask for meetings with the Ministry of Transport just to pursue unsuccessful strategies to obtain seats in the CDA. Ask the President of the Region to Minister Salvini to convene the shipping companies and ask an account of these speculations, given that they irreparably damage the tourist and economic competitiveness of the Region and make the Sardinians prisoners on their own island, if they cannot afford to use a full salary to go and visit one's relatives in Italy".
