Fifty-three years after the Fusina tragedy. Carloforte yesterday commemorated the anniversary of the sinking of the ship which left Portovesme with a load of blende bound for Porto Marghera and sank on the night of January 16 a few miles off the coast of Carloforte.
Out of 19 crew members, only one was saved, the ship's steward Ugo Freguja. A tragedy of the sea that the community of Carloforte remembers every year.
After mass in the church of San Carlo, a wreath of flowers was placed on the stele dedicated to the victims, in the Calata Mamma Mahon.
