The car burned during the night between Wednesday and Thursday on state road 389 could be the key to solving the mysterious attempted theft at the Acqua e Sapone headquarters in Prato Sardo.
The Fiat Panda, completely engulfed in flames , was found around 11pm on Wednesday along state road 389, shortly after the Orani exit.
The Nuoro firefighters intervened promptly to put out the fire and secure the area, but the fire raises doubts about a possible connection with the crime that occurred shortly before in Nuoro. The car, stolen in La Maddalena, could be, as mentioned, the one used shortly before by the criminals to attempt a robbery at the Acqua e Sapone department store in Prato Sardo.
The attack was particularly audacious because it occurred around 10.30pm, when there were still many customers in the restaurants and at the Multiplex cinema in the shopping centre.
The bandits allegedly used the car as a battering ram to break down the doors of the shop, perhaps aiming for the day's takings or the safe, but the attempt failed, and the criminals managed to escape. The coincidence between the burning of the car and the attempted theft is too obvious not to arouse suspicion.
The car stolen in La Maddalena, in fact, could have been used for the assault in Prato Sardo, and subsequently set on fire to destroy any evidence . The cameras in the area are being evaluated. The investigations started by the Carabinieri are still ongoing and the investigators are trying to shed light on the details of the incident.
