Two more years of work. "Barring unforeseen circumstances," says ARST General Manager Carlo Poledrini. The construction of the light rail line, which will connect Piazza Repubblica with Piazza Matteotti in Cagliari, promises further inconvenience for the residents of Cagliari, who have been grappling with traffic problems for five years now, disrupted by the construction work. The finish line, therefore, is further elusive.

ARST, the project's owner and contractor, continues to defend the project, emphasizing that it is an investment destined to transform urban mobility for decades to come. But residents' patience is being tested by the constant delays.

Among the most obvious examples of the project's difficulties is the San Saturnino station, which has become something of a paradox. Completed nearly two years ago, it has never been put into operation. "It's not yet ready for operation. In fact, there are still some work and checks required by safety regulations, essential to allow the tram to operate during the testing phase. Only after these activities are completed will it be possible to begin functional tests and enable the Ministerial Commission to issue the operating permit," explains Poledrini.
