The Council of State "blesses" the liquefied natural gas deposit and the regasification plant in the port of Cagliari, in Giorgino, which will be powered by gas tankers.

The Roman judges rejected the appeal presented by the Villaggio Pescatori Neighborhood Committee, confirming the ruling of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court which had paved the way for the 120 million euro Sardinia LNG project.

Residents of the area dispute the hypothetical danger of the plant, which will be built a short distance from homes.

«It has been reasonably highlighted», writes the Council of State, «that the Porto Canale constitutes the only port in Sardinia included among the 14 “core” Italian ports of the trans-European transport networks, identified to guarantee the availability of clean fuels alternatives."

For the panel chaired by Judge Gerardo Mastrandrea, the Giorgino container terminal «is located in an area overall adjacent to the route of the existing LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) transport networks serving the vast area of Cagliari, as well as being located in proximity to the location of the methane pipeline project (near the Sarroch ridge, Oristano, Porto Torres)".
