She found a wallet on a bench at the port. When she noticed a lot of cash inside, she was a little scared. Eventually, she decided to follow her honesty: she took the wallet and handed it over to a local police patrol.
Giancarlo Dessì, 80 years old, thus received compliments from the officers and then heartfelt thanks from the owners of the wallet, a couple of tourists who work in Switzerland: inside there were more than 1,600 euros, documents and passports.
He, a retired man after working as a bus driver for the ACT (which later became CTM), married with two children, recounts those moments: "I live in the Bastione area and often go for a walk by the port and sunbathe. I sat on a bench and saw the wallet. I thought it was a joke. Then, when I saw that there was a lot of money inside, I was a little scared. Then I plucked up some courage: I grabbed the wallet and brought it to the municipal police officers. They told me it wasn't something everyone would do, given the amount of money inside, and that it could give rise to bad thoughts."
The tourists thanked him heartily. "I did my duty as an honest citizen."
