The Municipality presented 31 summer events this morning: 13 events spread across 13 city squares as part of the “Si muove la città” (The City Moves) program, in addition to 18 initiatives for “Carmine 2026,” in one of the most controversial areas of the historic center due to issues related to degradation and safety.

"The initiatives we presented today are part of a varied summer program," explains Mayor Massimo Zedda. "From music to theater and cinema in many areas of the city: from Tuvixeddu to the historic center, from Giorgino to the Bastione."

Particular attention will be paid to Piazza del Carmine , where the administration aims to use cultural events and gatherings to improve the area's livability. "Last year, we had excellent feedback," says Culture Councilor Maria Francesca Chiappe. "As long as the events were held, no particular problems arose. We don't have a solution, but we're trying to bring people back to an important square in the city."

The planned events include theatrical and musical performances, children's workshops, and a day dedicated to the police force. "We hope that with the arrival of people, the situation will improve," the councilor added.

According to the Municipality, local businesses could also play an important role. "The initiatives of merchants are crucial," Chiappe emphasizes . "The opening of the pizzeria in Piazza del Carmine could certainly help, because in the afternoon the square tends to be completely empty."

Mayor Zedda agrees: "When a square is lived in and frequented by residents and families, those who want to cause trouble find it more difficult to disturb them." The mayor also points out that many of the vulnerable situations in the area are addressed through the work of social services, local health authorities, and mental health services.
