Two kilometers in total, traveling by car takes no more than two minutes. The prefect of Oristano, Salvatore Angieri, and the mayor of Cabras, Andrea Abis, this morning inaugurated the new rural road that leads from Is Arutas to the beach of Mari Ermi. The old road connection between the two coastal towns was interrupted twelve years ago following the decision of some private individuals to remove the availability of some land by installing enormous boulders. Which is why it was necessary to pass through the provincial road and travel about 15 kilometres.

This morning the civil and military authorities of the province of Oristano were also present and Don Giulio Esu, 93 years old, historic parish priest of Cabras, who blessed the stretch built in just two weeks thanks to regional funding of 280 thousand euros and a contribution municipal of 35 thousand euros. The public work was strongly supported by the municipal administration led by Mayor Andrea Abis due to its fundamental importance in the functions of public service, safety, rescue, fire prevention and for its high economic and tourist value along the Cabras coast.

«This is a road that will make our coastal territory more accessible and safe because - explains Abis - we think above all of the needs for surveillance and safety of the territory, of the rescue operations carried out by healthcare personnel or the firefighting service, which from today can be carried out without obstacles in support of civil protection. As a tourist location we also pay close attention to those who frequent the coast, to those who love to travel between our beaches. From today it will be possible to do it easily, especially with bicycles, avoiding the long ride on the provincial roads and drastically reducing travel times".

The workers used an existing rural route, respecting the rules of the regional landscape plan which impose a distance of 300 meters from the beach for coastal roads. The path was then widened, then beaten and delimited on the sides by large stones. But there is also another novelty. The 118 medical emergency service ambulance will be stationed in Is Arutas for the first time.
