A new step forward toward the rehabilitation of the entire aqueduct serving Burcei: on Wednesday, October 29 , Abbanoa teams will activate the new bypass in the first section of the pipeline that feeds the municipal reservoir from the Corongiu water treatment plant.
"As an administration," says Burcei Mayor Simone Monni, "we are very satisfied with the work done to resolve this serious issue that has been crippling our community for years. It has been a long and arduous battle that can only be won through collaboration between the various agencies. The definitive resolution of the water service disruptions on the breakwater is ever closer and will be a momentous achievement for Burcei. I thank President Giuseppe Sardu, the Board of Directors, and especially the technical staff who worked hard to achieve this great result, which will bring relief to all citizens for a long time to come."
Over the course of the year, the first section presented numerous critical issues, with frequent breakages requiring the Operator's teams to undertake numerous interventions . Meanwhile, a detailed study was initiated by Abbanoa Distribution Sector technicians, which highlighted the most critical points where corrosion and high pressures had caused the majority of the breakages. This led to the decision to proceed with a special relining technique, which is affecting 3 km of pipelines, including the reconstruction of manholes and special pieces along the line. Bypasses of approximately one kilometer are being installed, ensuring supply even during ongoing work. The empty pipeline is repaired using a special sheath made of ultra-resistant Kevlar, which adheres to the internal walls of the pipes and repairs them from the inside.
The total investment is nearly 3 million euros, financed with tariff funds and included in the 2024/29 Intervention Plan.
