"I have decided to take on the role of primary care physician." This was declared by the mayor of Bonorva, Massimo D'Agostino, who was a doctor in the penitentiary in the past where he served for several years .

The decision follows the dismissal of two general practitioners which left over a thousand patients without healthcare .

"Don't ask me what happened and what made me change my mind because I don't know either. I only know that there are no doctors, that it's a difficult time for my country and that I had to do it, and that's it." D'Agotino adds: "I hope with all my heart that I'm up to the task and that I can honor both roles with dignity."

The assignment will be temporary in the hope that a doctor will soon be appointed, "a colleague who will allow me to return to my life. I don't know how I will manage all this but I am happy to alleviate the anxiety and worry of so many people to whom, helplessly, I could not give an answer". It begins on Monday, April 14.
