Exploitation of foreign labour and aiding illegal immigration: these are the crimes found by the Carabinieri of the Sassari Labour Inspectorate and their colleagues from the Bonorva Carabinieri company engaged in checks at agricultural companies where non-EU workers are employed, in order to ascertain their working conditions.

The military identified a man of foreign origin who allegedly violated the Seasonal Flows Decree, a tool that allows employers, who need manpower to employ in seasonal agricultural work, to request the entry of non-EU workers into the territory of the Italian state. A procedure sometimes exploited to allow the entry into Italy of non-EU workers willing to pay even large sums.

By order of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Sassari, the suspect was held responsible for the crimes of "Facilitating illegal immigration and impersonation". The man allegedly submitted false requests for authorization to work as a subordinate at the Sassari Immigration One-Stop Shop, fraudulently using the data of an agricultural entrepreneur, owner of a company in the province of Sassari.
The requests for clearance concerned the entry of 3 non-EU workers from a South Asian state.
During another inspection carried out at a local farm, three Asian workers were identified who were forced to live in dilapidated accommodation, lacking the minimum safety requirements. A fine of 1,700.00 euros was applied to the employer, with a report to the Prosecutor's Office.
