A 50-year-old man from the hinterland accused of setting fires in the Bonorva area between 2024 and 2025 has been placed under house arrest and given an electronic bracelet . In recent days, investigating judge Giuseppe Grotteria ordered the suspect to be held in custody, although prosecutor Giovanni Porcheddu had previously requested a prison sentence.

There are seven incidents for which man is suspected of being responsible , fires that affected land, pastures, woods, all concentrated in a few km around the SP 43 in 2024 and in the localities of Sa Camba Noa and Mura Menteda/Paule Renu in 2025 .

These had caused significant damage, as in the case of the fire in September 2024 in which 300 hectares were devastated by flames . These fires required the intervention of aircraft, in addition to ground operators, to extinguish them.

The 50-year-old, who owns a sheepfold far from the burned areas, is accused of a series of evidence gathered by law enforcement, including through the use of surveillance cameras and searches , which the judge deemed serious and compelling. The suspect, assisted by lawyer Fabrizio Manai, pleaded not guilty to the crime, emphasizing that the route along which the fires broke out is the one he takes to commute from home to work. The detour, however, involving an incident in July 2025, was, according to his version, also for work-related reasons.
